Happy 100th Day of School!!

We finally made it (well almost)! I worked so hard on making so many 100th Day activities and luckily I spent a few hours last night setting them up for today, because after I went to the gym last night I slipped on ice and sprained my ankle, oy vey. However, my students' still had a fun 100th day of school even though I was not there (my colleague sent me pictures of them working on their 100th day activities, which made my day a little better!)

I made a sign and put up some streamers to help greet students for the 100th Day!

I then left my students' some stickers, a pencil, the materials for their necklace, a pair of 100 glasses (which took forever to cut out, but so fun), and the pictures I took of them now and as a 100 years old (using the Old Fart Booth Application).

Then, I made an estimation station. Each jar either had a 100 items or less than 100 items. Students' had to go around and guess which ones had 100 items.

Another station was counting by 10s hopscotch. Very simple, but my students' LOVE anything that gets them moving.

Finally, they worked very hard on creating their 100th day cereal necklaces. They had to put a marker at every 10 pieces of cereal.

Well that was our 100th day in a nut shell. I am sad I had to miss it, but I am glad my students' had a blast.

Five for Friday Linky Party!

It is already February… I still can not believe this! Time just flies by and I have no idea what haas happened in the mean time, oy vey!

I finally finished my Sight Word Cards! I am so excited to use these in my classroom and I just put them up on Teachers Pay Teachers. I really feel that these will be a great tool to help my students with sight word fluency, and in context! Click the picture above to get these now!

I started Grad School in January and I am going a little crazy with how busy I am. This has been my life every night lately. I feel like I can never get ahead, but it will be worth it in the end!

We have had 7 snow days, since the end of winter break. I am starting to go a little stir crazy and feeling a little stressed with how far behind I am in my classroom. However, one snow day I decided to make a chain showing the days left until the Color Run. 91 more days and I am super excited.

We started really working on sounding out and blending CVC words in my Kindergarten group. They love the CVC practice cards from Cara Caroll's Filling in the Gaps packet. Everything is already cut out and ready to go, so very easy for me as well!

Finally, My 2nd graders have been working very hard with estimating and their overall number sense. They love to circle the numbers on their 120s chart to help them visualize what number to round to. This chart is from Anna Brantley's, Common Core: Numbers to 120.

Currently Snowing ~ January Edition!

Happy 2014! I cannot believe it is a new year already. Hoping that 2014 is a fabulous year for everyone! I am linking up with Farley for the first Currently Me of the year.

To briefly summarize everything up, currently I am doing anything to not work on school stuff. I really need to get started, since break is almost over, but I really am enjoying doing nothing!

Listening: I have been watching/ listening to the TV series, Dance Academy on Netflix. It is kind of cheesy, but I am now hooked and cannot stop watching!

Loving: I am loving not having to be anywhere and watching the snow fall from inside.

Thinking: I am thinking about everything that needs to get done. Did I mention I have yet to even start planning for next week.

Wanting: I really could use another week of winter break. I do not know if I would be any more productive, but it would be nice.

Needing: I really need to get working on my lesson plans and all of the school stuff I brought home.

Memory: I really enjoyed getting to see my family for Christmas.

Elf in the Classroom Linky Party!

I am joining the Elf in the Classroom Linky Party! Click the link above to link up. I did not blog about week 1 yet, so this blog entry will include Week 1 and Week 2. Having an elf has brought so much joy and excitement to my students. It has been worth every minute! I think I am having just as much fun as my students are.

Day 1:

Santa sent our elf and left him sitting by the Christmas tree. We read the book and watched the movie on this day. My students were very excited to have the elf. However, they were also a little confused at how this elf could be real and make it to the North Pole every night.

Day 2:

We decided to name him Gingerbread! He was hanging out in our alphabet tree on this day.

Day 3:

Gingerbread liked his name so much, he decided to write it all over the classroom. He also got stuck hanging upside down from the front board.

Day 4:

Gingerbread was playing some basketball and got stuck in the hoop. My students were afraid he was either going to fall or that he would not be able to get himself unstuck, he made it out just fine however. ;)

Day 5:

Gingerbread felt left out, so he added his name to our word wall. This day was very dramatic. Gingerbread was hanging just fine in the morning and when I went out for Door Duty he must have fallen off of the chart. When we came in, in the morning my students were very afraid that he was hurt or that he would lose his magic, but everything worked out just fine. Also, My students could not get past his sloppy writing, silly elf.

Day 6:

Gingerbread left my students a note, with a good report back to Santa and also a chain to help us count down the days until Christmas break.

Day 7:

Gingerbread decided to read some of his favorite books. My students loved that when they came in he was reading his own book.

Day 8:

Gingerbread left us some jingle bells for our door, so that he can hear us coming. He also decided to hide on top of one of our speakers.

Day 9:

Gingerbread decided to have a Candy Land party with our Candy Land sight word game. He even invited some of our reading buddies to join him.

Day 10:

Gingerbread decided we needed some more Christmas cheer. He put up a strand of lights around our dry erase board. This just made my students day and of course I was happy because it was Friday!

One more week to go! I am glad it is almost Christmas break, but I will be sad to see Gingerbread head back to the North Pole. This has been a blast having an elf. Seeing the joy and excitement in my students has made it beyond worth it! Until next week, happy "elfing" my blogging friends!
